Comments are what make a blog a blog. A blog is defined on Wikipedia as a virtual diary where people can comment or reply to the authors posts. It even states that, “A blog is not a blog with out comments.” Basically, you are writing to get feedback on a blog. You are posting it to hear back what other people think about the topic your discussing. The author on this blog agrees that a blog without comments is indeed no blog at all. He is upset that he has to post a reply on his blog (http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/04/a-blog-without-comments-is-not-a-blog.html) Not quite sure why it put the full link there, hmmm….anywho, he is mad that someone disabled there blogs which means he can’t post his opinion to the topic. Atwood compares it to a church service stating that there is no question answer period after the sermon. This is a good comparison. Why write and post something that you don’t want responses for on a blog?!

Some pointers I would give someone about leaving good comments would be to be sure you know what you are talking about before you send a response to a post. Also to always be polite. I have seen many with strong words or rude dispositions. I just don’t see the need for that. There is a way to state your point of view on a topic with out coming out looking like a jack ass! 🙂
