Conflict management is the focus of chapter ten in our books. What a key topic for public relations majors. This is the main thing you will be doing whether you work for a public relations department or an independent public relations firm. These are the most crucial roles played by public relations professionals these being the strategic management of conflicts. Conflict management can be divided down into four groups that are explained in our chapter. They call this the life cycle and say that it is an ongoing cycle by nature. The four steps include issues management, which is a proactive and  systematic approach to predicting problems before they happen. The second step is risk communication which means attempting to convey info regarding risks to public health and safety to the environment. The third step is crisis communication which is exactly what it means, getting info out to the public during a crisis in a timely and accurate manner. The last and fourth step is reputation management. This again is exactly what it sounds like. If something happens to tarnish a company or organizations image, this is your attempt to regain the reputation and keep it from getting harmed.
