Grammar Girl–Mignon Fogarty

August 30, 2010

I am interested from your post your view on if cuss words are ‘ok’ to be used now in writing? I just wrote a blog post for one of my PR writing classes on this article. Very interesting, and super sad that our society is becoming more tolerant of such words and phrases. Just think if all of that is ‘ok’ now, where will our culture be in 10 more years?!!! Scary to think about. In my post on my blog I referenced the part that I think even though our society is more open to this type of profanity it should still not be used in professional settings.

Alicia Addison-Widespread Panic Fall Tour

September 21, 2010

I LOVE MUSIC!! Really enjoyed reading your post about Widespread. What a neat job that would be to go on the road team and promote the band. Just think of all the places and crazy interesting people you would meet?! Fun. Sadly, I am an older student returning to college after a break to work in the real world, but love the Allman Brothers. I could never really get into the whole Widespread thing though. 😦 A ton of my friends did though. I tried it. It just all seems the same to me. Being born and raised in GA though any local southern rock band will always have my respect and support! One thing I have really noticed about WSP fans is that they always seem to be DIEHARD fans!!! You never meet someone who ‘kind of likes’ them….crazy how devoted they are!

Cait Bailey – Bubble Gum or Booger Sugar?

September 21, 2010

Ha ha ha ha! Love the title of this Cait! She is such an idiot. First of all, she has all ready spent time in jail (not long) but still you think she would have learned something. I have no idea why all these celebrities think they are ‘above the law’. It truly drives me bonkers. If you break the law no matter how famous, or how much money you have, you are going to have to do the punishment. Finally, why the heck is she ‘famous’ in the first place?! She has done nothing worthy of all the fame and attention she has received since she has been in the media. Her show was a joke, her singing was a joke, and her fame is a joke. I am definitely over hearing about her. It is sad that America now follows these tabloid stories like they are addicited…like booger sugar! 🙂

Natlye Baldwin-Props for Talking Smack about Brands

September 21, 2010

Cool post. I have never heard of this site, what a great idea. I love checking out sites (I get the I have to research it to death before I buy it gene from my father) before making a new big purchase, or honestly, not going to lie, even with smaller purchases like tennis shoes! 🙂 So sites like this one become very important in my crazy buying process. Ha, now that I have made myself sound like a complete nut, there is one thing I do not understand and that is the Four Square thing you are talking about. I am on Facebook soley for personal use, but see people checking in (is that what it’s called?) on Facebook through Four Square, and it basically just tells people where you are, right? Please explain more of what this Four Square is if you get a chance. Thanks!! 🙂

Lindsey Bowers-I love the “Lolli-Ladies”

September 21, 2010

How Cute! Where are they based out of? I also would love to help with event planning after school. I am working right now with a local event space called The Belle House. My friend’s parents built it to rent out for special events around town. So I am helping her out with that. All though we don’t really do any of the actual event planning, we just rent it out and people normally have thier own planners. I am hoping maybe after getting a year under our belt and after I graduate then I can offer it as a service added on to the rental of the space. I think the only event I would never want to plan was someone else’s wedding! WAY to stressful. I’m planning my own right now and almost can’t handle it! I can’t imagine the responsibilty of being in charge of someone else’s! Wow!

Casey Corley – Hello Future!

September 21, 2010

These sites are a big help, also check out my new PR Connections post on WetFeet.com it is also a site kind of like the ones you mention here. As a senior myself, I am nervous about being able to find a job in this economy and high unemployment period. Sites like this and the tips and social networking that Professor Nixon provides really will help you in making useful connections and contacts in the market you are wanting to get into. So take full advantage of networking opportunity that’s out there right now to try and secure a job or hey even just an interview after graduation. That is my plan! Good Luck! 🙂

Alica DeCoste – Rick Sanchez: Oops!

September 21, 2010

Funny. It proves that no one is perfect in the media. Even our past and present President’s have bloopers time to time when in public giving statements or speaches. I haven’t heard of this one yet, I think it is funny how CNN handled it though. Cutting to commercial and then making him apoligize to the public right after the break! I can only imagine his lecture during the commercials. Hysterical.

Victoria Evans – Print is disappearing????

September 21, 2010

I agree. I’m torn with the whole ‘paperless’ office and classrooms. One of my favorite things to do is curl up and read a good book by the fire in the winter or layout and read a shallow paperback at the beach during summer vacations. If everything goes to print will I have to curl up and lay out with my PDA, or Kindle?! Just doesn’t have the same feel to it. I’m all about saving the trees and our ecosystem, but does everything have to go paperless and electronic? It is kind of sad.

Smitten with the Samsung Epic 4g Camera

Love this ‘phone’! My soon to be husband works at Verizon in town and keeps me up to date with the latest phones. It’s amazing what these phones can do now. I remember my first cell phone, it was a bag phone that plugged in my car. It had a long curly cord and was only to be used for emergencies. Ha! My how we have come a long way! What did we ever do without them??

Lo Woodward – PR Connection 9–> “10 Top Photography Composition Rules”

October 20, 2010

LO! I love this. I like to think of myself as a novice photographer…very novice. 🙂 This site was interesting to visit and read through after our reading we did. It really does give you some great pointers and ideas. It is so true that a picture speaks 1000 words. They can have so much meaning and sentiment. 🙂

Lo Woodward – What to NOT do when you quit a job…

October 20, 2010

I have not seen this before, but I just laughed out loud and woke up my puppy and my fiancé!! I worked for a man who I would have liked to have done that to one time. I think he was worse though than her boss. He was older and didn’t even know how to use a computer, so he couldn’t function without me. It was miserable. I’m glad people still have a sense of humor though, even though this wasn’t the best way to handle things. It wasn’t appropriate, but sure is funny. I love how he retaliated back. Perfect. Ha! 🙂

Stephanie Thomas – Diva in Denial

October 20, 2010

Wow. Diva has a whole new meaning now. It looks like it means it comes with a list of ridiculous stuff. How retarded. That just shows how celebrity crazed people are now. They bring in that much money and a ton of people to their shows I guess that the venues that are putting it on may think of this as a small price to pay for them to come perform. It’s nuts! (Oh but none in her M&M’s) Ha 🙂 So insane, what is the world coming too?

Joy Raybon –

Real Men Wear Pink

October 20, 2010

What a great idea! I love to see every year the new things they come up with to promote breast cancer awareness month each year. This topic hits very near and dear to my heart because one of my friends lost her mom 2 years ago to breast cancer. She is taking part in the 3 day walk they do in Atlanta this weekend. I agree with you that real men wear pink. My fiance looks wonderful in pink (and purple) so when i get him a shirt those are normally the colors I go towards. 🙂 Good thing he likes it ok also!

Reality TV-Popular?

October 20, 2010

Isn’t it scary to think that these crazy people on reality shows are now what entertain us? I think it is. Like you said, the times are changing, and I guess this what our younger culture is looking up to now? Strange. I have heard rumors that other ‘reality’ shows like ‘The Hills’ and ‘The City’ are all staged and scripted, but then just filmed like reality. I wonder how many ‘reality’ shows are really real and which ones are scripted? I am a sitcom girl at heart and LOVE the show Modern Family. This is only its second season, but I feel like it’s the best show on TV right now. Hope it says around for awhile until all these ‘reality’ (if that’s really what they are) shows fade away and lose their luster.

Samantha Glover – A blow to my Beiber Fever…

October 20, 2010

Uh oh and upset Bieber fan!!! What happened? Why is he looking bratty? It’s funny you mention his PR team because one of my friends is actually on it, ha! Like you said though, most stuff gets blown out of proportion. She actually travels around with him on the road to handle the PR stuff first hand. She has had a blast, but has said more than once to me that every famous person needs a great PR firm. She says he can look at someone the wrong way and it is in the paper the next day. Also recovering from this mostly untrue bad press is hard to do. Hey if I was as popular and rich as Bieber is now at his age, I think I might be a little bratty also! 🙂

Devin Adams – Surrender Snipes!!!

Nov. 30, 2010

Devin I agree 100% with you on this story and your point. It is redunk that people who make millions of dollars can’t seem to do the simple things that us normal middle class (or in reality broke college students 🙂 ) bust our tails to do everyday with a fraction of their income! I also think it is absurd that all of these young stars and celebrities (well and a few older) have so many ‘issues’. Besides just like Mr. Snipes here just having trouble paying taxes, it seems that so many celebs are in rehab or facing jail time for crazy charges. What are they thinking?? That they aren’t normal American citizens? That the rules don’t apply to them? It really makes my blood boil. Get it together upper class, you have it made, don’t mess it up thinking your not human!!

Nov. 30, 2010

I love infographics! This truly is a great idea. What is more boring than just reading a paragraph of text? Nothing! The creation and use of infographics really does help grab the attention of the reader. Also as you stated it helps people understand what your point may be better also. I know I am a visual person and learner. Infographics in a public relations piece always help me understand it more and grab my attention. If it is just all words, I seem to try and avoid it at all costs. That is me being completely honest! I have a short attention span anyway so anything that can help it grab on to something longer is a huge help! 🙂

Chad Ainsworth – Apple Teases Us Once Again

Nov. 30, 2010

Agree with you here. My family (father, brother, fiance) are all obsessed with new technology. So of course when we all heard about this and what in the world was apple up to now, let’s just say there wasn’t much sleep this night. What a disappointment though. Now don’t get me wrong, I really like the Beatles and they are an iconic band that will always be popular, honored and remembered, but was this much of a hype ok for what it was? I can tell you the males who couldn’t wait to find out what this was all about do not agree that it was. Way to cry wolf Apple…but hey, the album was a great gift for my father’s birthday, and a great ad to his itunes collection. Don’t toy with our emotions again though Apple!! 🙂

Chad Ainsworth – Fortunate Photographer

Nov. 30, 2010

Dropping out of college works for such a small percentage of people. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. This sounds awesome though. What a great opportunity and amazing job. Can you imagine all the real world lessons he learns and places he gets to travel everyday?! People argue college is just a rite of passage. A piece of paper that shows that you have drive to complete something. Not everyone who goes and graduates from college will be a success. It’s people like this that make me jealous. What a risky move, but what an awesome reward. To be doing what you love, your passion, and to not have to take out student loans or have finals to do it! Rock on Steven! 🙂

Chad Ainsworth – Privacy Intrusion Much

Nov. 30, 2010

Ok this is my third comment on your page, but your posts intrest me so much. Think we are on the same wavelength here! This is a load of crap. We live in a free country right? I understand the need for safety and respect that. I definitely don’t won’t my plane getting hijacked or a bomb going off on my way to my honeymoon, but this is a bit too much. We already can’t take our full bottles of shampoo or lotion on flights. We have to go through security with no shoes on (yucky airport floors!) and are randomly selected for searches which make us late for our flights and back up lines, why this now? Especially if there is a chance of it causing health problems. This makes me really not want to fly now that I have to pay to check my bags too. Thanks Bin Laden!!

John Cissel – Where is that song from?

Nov. 30, 2010

What a great post and point! It is amazing how much music can make an impact in advertising. Also in movies at certian points or TV shows. I’m getting married in 18 days! (YAY the madness is almost over!) and we have been choosing songs for our wedding. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. What song would communicate exactly how we feel for each other for our first dance? What songs go along with our slideshow we are showing at our dinner? What songs are appropriate for the actual christian ceremony? It’s been an interesting battle trying to figure these out. Once I sat down with my fiance though and thought about how we met, special songs that have meant things along the way in our relationship, and what songs describe what we want for our future. It was easy. Now that it’s done I can’t WAIT for all of them to be played during our special time to help express that emotion that we feel for each other to our family and friends. What would life or love be without music??

John Cissel – Business = Social Networking

Nov. 30, 2010

I agree with you here. In this day and age it is dumb to not take advantage of all the internet opportunites out there to advertise your business, product, or service. I am helping my friend market and advertise her new event space in town called the Belle House. We have gotten so much business from people seeing our fan page on facebook. That is completely free also. People aren’t going to be in business long, like you said unless the jump on the social media bandwagon pronto! This is now where most people who are doing business in the world today go to find products and services. I still think putting an ad or article in a newspaper or magazine is important, but it really depends on who your target market is. Most likely though, your best bet is reaching people through these social media sites that have taken off!

Amanda Furmage – Creepers are Everywhere!!

Nov. 30, 2010

Super Scary!!! Creepers are everywhere. It’s so sad. Even now on professional websites. The internet is a great tool for normal people, but it sure has brought out a few crazies too! What is this world coming too? Do people really seriously think that by sending a message like that back to someone that they are really going to respond the way they want them too?! Wierdos!! I know Facebook has done a lot to update and strenghen their security but still, anything you put out on the internet is fair game to all….even creepers! Just always a good rule to remember, even for professional sites. You never know who could be looking, or creeping! 🙂

Ashley Wright –

Racy ‘Diesel’ Ads Embarrass Brooklyn Law School

Nov. 30, 2010

First off…gross! I can’t believe she is only 17 also. I know I may sound like an old fogey of the ripe old age of 27 but I don’t think this is ok or ‘tasteful’ at all. Fashion ads though lately seem to be taking a more shocking approach. This has been going on for years though. Even in the US not just in other countries. Do you remember all the controversy over the Abercrombie & Fitch Ads? Or how about all the bible beaters going nuts (no pun intended) about the first Calvin Kline ads? This is nothing new….but for a 17 year old to be taking them in an educational institutions library…I’m not ok with this either!

Sam Mooty – 6 day Skyscraper

Nov. 30, 2010

Ewwww, now I don’t think I could do that either. That’s insane though. Sounds like something that would be done in Dubai. They seem to be the leaders in all of these crazy new buildings and fast builds. I was in commercial real estate for two years and to build a hotel in this amount of time just blows my mind. Leave to them to do it! 🙂
